Julia Wright “Texture”
Julia told us about her creative journey and what inspires
her.
She comes from a creative family and trained at Edinburgh
College of Art specialising in Applied Design.
After graduating she took a year out to travel which turned into seven
years; spending two in Japan.
She worked at the Craft Centre and Design Gallery part of
Leeds City Art Gallery.
She qualified as a High school art teacher and is now teaching
sixth form A level Textiles and Art Foundation
The process of making inspires her most, the combination of
working with fabric, thread and metal.
She is inspired by shapes, colours, patterns, texture, rusty objects,
seed pods and natural forms; clusters of barnacles, tangled roots, lichen. She loves drawing, photography, sampling and
creating sketchbooks.
In the summer holidays this year she will travel to Australia to give talks and run workshops.
