Monday 2nd October

Felt Pennies Workshop with Sue T

The meeting started at twelve as usual with a small group socialising as usual, the group was a bit smaller than usual with a number of our members not being well or on holiday.

Sue started the workshop at 2 pm with a little bit about the history of felt pennies.  During the American civil war women saved scraps from blankets, clothes and uniforms the pennies were used as a template to cut out circles from the fabrics which were then sewn together with blanket stitch.  Occasionally pennies were left in rugs to help them lie flat. When the fabric wore away it was replaced with another penny fabric shape.

Thank you Sue for an enjoyable day,

I am sure we will all be bringing our finished pieces for the display table at next meeting.
